US F-16 warplane crashes in Michigan: reports

A US military F-16 fighter jet crashed on Thursday in the state of Michigan, with the pilot able to eject safely, US media reported.

The aircraft belonged to the Texas Air National Guard and was on a training mission when the crash occurred, media reports said.

Grand Traverse County Emergency Management in Michigan said on Facebook that an evacuation order is "now in effect due to a plane crash," but did not provide further details.

Gary Peters, one of the northern state's two US senators, said on X that he was "aware of the plane crash near Traverse City" and was "closely monitoring the situation as we work to get more information on the incident."
