AREVA, represented by its subsidiary STMI, has won the call for tenders to provide its services as industrial operator of the French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management's Aube surface disposal facility. The contract, worth several million euros, covers the period from 2017 to 2022.

As industrial operator of the site, AREVA's main responsibilities will be:

+ Acceptance, inspection, as well as any reconditioning operations and final disposal on site for low-level and intermediate-level radioactive waste sent to the site;

+ Radiological monitoring of the facility;

+ Monitoring of the site's environmental impact.

The Aube surface disposal facility is used for the disposal of low- and intermediate-level, short-lived radioactive waste, mainly originating from the maintenance, operation or dismantling of nuclear facilities. The site receives more than 20,000 packages of waste every year.

Alain Vandercruyssen, Senior Executive Vice President, AREVA Dismantling and Services, comments: "I am delighted that ANDRA has renewed its trust in us to manage the Aube surface disposal facility.

The team has been able to put the experience that it has acquired over the last few years to optimum use to propose an innovative and competitive offer. This contract consolidates our status as a leading partner of ANDRA on site."
